Walk in Your Shoes 2026

During the summer of 2021, Novo Theatre launched Walk in Your Shoes, an initiative set up after lockdown to re-engage with audiences.

Over four weeks we walked over 126 miles of St Oswald’s Way across beautiful Northumberland, from Hexham in the west to Spittal in the north. It was a new way to connect with audiences after Covid-19 and introduce theatre safely in gardens and outdoor spaces with ‘Doorstep Theatre’ presented at Hexham, Great Whittington, Thropton, Felton, Amble, Longhoughton, Lowick and Spittal.

It proved so popular, we continued to hold a couple of walks a year and in 2026 we celebrate five years of Walk in Your Shoes. We wanted to get outdoors, have conversations and discover the stunning Northumberland landscapes, amazing stories and to meet like minded people.

Over the past five years we have walked just under 170 miles (not including all of the test walks done by Andrea!), with 123 amazing people who have walked with us and discovered countless stories rooted in the people and places of Northumberland.

• 5 mile circular walk around Alnwick

• 6 mile coastal walk from Bamburgh to Budle Bay
